This is the second post in this series. In this post, we are going to install Hortonworks Sandbox, which is the platform where we will practice our exam objectives.
We are going to follow below step-by-step process to install Hortonworks Sandbox.
As you can see from above picture, below are the steps to install and get started with Hortonworks Sandbox.
- Download Hortonworks Sandbox 2.3
The latest version of Hortonworks Sandbox is 2.5, but since it was giving some issues while getting started, we are going to use version 2.3 which is recommended by the online community.
To download Hortonworks Sandbox 2.3, please click here.
Once you get to this page, look for Hortonworks Sandbox Archive option as shown in below figure. Please click on EXPAND which will open up the various versions of Hortonworks Sandbox.
Once you click on Expand, you will see HDP Sandbox 2.3.2 as shown in below figure.
You should click on DOWNLOAD FOR VIRTUALBOX as highlighted in above screenshot.
Once you click on that button, it opens up a web-based form which looks something like this.
Please fill all the mentioned details in the form, check the box for Terms and Conditions and click on Submit.
Once you click on Submit, if the information is inserted correctly, then your HDP Sandbox download will begin.
Now, we’ll go to the next step.
- Download and Install Oracle VirtualBox Manager
Since we have the HDP Sandbox, it is time to download and install Oracle VirtualBox Manager.
You can download it from this link. It will install the windows application to install Oracle VirtualBox Manager.
The installation is quite straightforward like every windows software installation.
Once, it is installed successfully, the VirtualBox Manager window will look something like this.
- Load Sandbox in VirtualBox
Once VirtualBox is installed and Sandbox is downloaded, it is time to load the Sandbox in VirtualBox.
Please follow below steps to achieve this task.
- Open VirtualBox. Click on File -> Import Appliance.
2. Select the downloaded Hortonworks Sandbox file to import.
3. Selecting the Sandbox file.
4. Click on Next.
5. Perform necessary edits, if any. This step can be done during the installation and post installation as well.
6. Wait for import process to finish. It shows the progress bar as follows.
- Perform necessary Sandbox Edits
Once you install Hortonworks Sandbox, it will give you the following window. The red circles indicate the button that are of our interests.
You can change some of the settings that you missed during the installation with the help of Settings button, whereas you can start the Virtual Machine with Start button.
Now it is time to launch the Hortonworks Sandbox
- Launch Sandbox
Just click on the Start button shown in above screenshot. It will start the Hortonworks Sandbox. It will take some time to start all the services. Once all the services are up, you will be greeted with the following screen.
As mentioned in above screen, if you want to access Sandbox command line, just press Alt+F5 for windows hosts.
Once you press Alt+F5, you will get the following screen. Type root as the username and hadoop as the password, to login to the command line.
- Practice HDPCD Objectives
Now it is time to practice HDPCD objectives.
